Letter 3/11/2013
Familia!
Wow
so another week passed.... Maybe it jsut dawned on me how every week i
comment on how quick the past week went by... but its true... time is
just flying by and i hope it is for you all as well...
I have gotten to this point where in this area i cant help but
feel like it hits a super awesome high, then a super low.... sometimes
weekly, but lately its been daily... However this past week i have seen
some pretty awesome miracles...
On monday
we went over to some eternal investigators house just to see how she
was doing and when we knocked on the door (theres 4 rooms in the house),
one of the other people that lives at the house came and answered the
door... I asked "se encuentra Wendy" (shes an american, but has been
living here for the past 12 years)... and he answered "ya bro, shes in
the back lemme get her"... IN ENGLISH! Just to describe this guy, he has
full sleeves of tatoos, a giant virgin mary tatoo on his chest and just
looked like a super gangsta... I started talking to him though, and he
told me he was deported because he got a felony for 12 counts of armed
robery, hahaha so i kinda just left him alone...
After our lesson with wendy however we told her wed come back
the next day and we did... On our way over to the house we saw him
walking in the street, and he just said "hey guys, are you going to be
with wendy for a bit"?.. i told him that we would and that we could wait
15 minutes to talk to him.... When he got there he asked us for a
blessing to help get off of some serious drugs... I (in shock that hed
ask for a blessing), explained what it included, and he really wanted
one... After the blessing he left and the next day we went back to see
him and taught him...
He loves the gospel.. He threw up when he walked into his
house and smelled drugs so he threw them all out... Weve taught
everything, and he wants to pay tithing really bad... He wants to go to
church... After teaching the word of wisdom he threw all of his coffee
and alcohol out, and now has 1 week clean of drugs...
Ive never taught someone like this, but he really has just
changed around his whole life... IN ONE WEEK! He told us, that he
thought he had fallen too far to get into the celestial kingdom and said
if a baptism can really forgive him for all hes done he wants nothing
more than to teach other people about how his life has changed...
So weve scheduled an interview for him with the president, and
hes now reading the book of mormon... (on his phone, because i still
havent gotten him a copy of it in english because he doesnt understand
spanish when he reads it.... i know right)... but he is so awesome,
honestly...
Well... apart from his... last night we met two girls who just
seem like theyve had kind of a ruff life... A recently returned
missionary introduced them to us last night and they were loving the
first lesson... At the end we asked them if they wanted to be baptized
and said yes... wow.... Well its kind of nice that were having a little
bit more success, after we had a lot of people that feel through... but
hopefully ill be able to see a big change in this area...
Well... this is the last week of this change and now my best
friend in the mission Elder Mckie is going home, so... im kind of sad...
but whats nice is Elder Tucker got moved into my zone again, so i still
got a lot of friends... Its just kind of weird that all the
missionaries ive ever really looked up too have now left... hahaha... IM
OLD!!!
Well i love you all a ton and thanks for the letters!
Elder Smitheram
