Letter 12/6/2011

Hola Familia Smitheram... y amigos!

Wow everythings slowly turning around this week and im feeling really good about the work. Es bien difícil ahora pero im loving our new plan to work with all these menos activos to help them, (and their nonmember family) go to church....

To start off, mom, you dont get to hear any, "did you get robbed stories", until after tanners gone on his mission...

Anyways quick funny story of the week... Elder Buenvecino ( elder good neighbor) and I got on a bus to preach to everyone like normal and this bus was packed... so we did the normal introduction, preached a little and then seperated and went around asking for contacts.... Well no one wanted to listen, so we sat down.... Seriously, not more than one stop later, a guy gets on the bus, and in the most unenthusiastic voice tells everyone he is selling bubbles, (like the ones you give away for party favors) for 10 pesos a piece, (which is like the equivalent of a dollar and with that money you could buy a lot), and i kid you not the bus went crazy... people started shouting to buy 2 or 3 at a time and were asking him for bigger sizes... and Elder Buenvecino and I just started laughing.... I told him, "In the tribunal of heaven when we stand before them, its a good thing to know they were more interested in bubbles than eternal families and the gospel of Jesus Christ"...

Also my spanish is coming a long great... people on the street always ask where im from, and I always respond "de la D.F." (the federal district also known as mexico city)... and without fail there is always silence and i keep a straight face.... more silence and then im like "no, de los estados unidos" and they always laugh, hahaha but ive been working on my accent so it sounds pretty good right now hahaha.

Without fail lately, everything has been pretty tough... weve been working with a lot of investigators who arent progressing so now, elder buenvecino and i are changing our style... Con la tema "buscar escogidos", esta semana estamos encontrando nuevos cada día.... we are pretty excited because we know throughout this place, theres people waiting to hear our message so its time to work even harder to find them... Also we just had cambios so this means since elder buenvecino and i are companions for the next six weeks, which also means im his last companion...

I did have a really special experience this week i want to share... we found an old ward list of all the menos activos so we decided to start working on it to reactivate the members and we came across a name and the address and knocked on the door... we found a family whos daughter has been inactive for 8 years who wasnt there, but the entire family was, and they hadnt been baptized.... The dad was shaking a lot while we were teaching the plan of salvation and finally, we challenged them to go to church and they partially accepted... Turns out the dad has terrible parkinsons disease and barely can stand, so he cant take the bus and is confined to the house but really wants to go to church... everyone else wont go unless the dad goes so we right now have a problem.... EVERYONE in the ward takes the bus.... 2 people in the ward have cars and both are taking two trips to pick up their families so right now we are trying to find a way to help them... but they really do love the message and want to have an eternal family and its awesome to see...

Well i did get a package from mom and dad but not from grandma... good news it wasnt opened... they didnt even touch the pictures of jesus... also this last week i saw elder tucker and he said he had gotten two packages from his parents... one with a big picture of the virgin mary (which by the way, the catholics claim is more important than god, because she is the mother of god), and also one without, and they didnt touch the one with the virgin maria so make sure to throw some really catholic stuff on packages when you send them, because he said almost everything was robbed out of the other...

Also no, im not jealous of your new tv, hahaha i just got a hand me down mp3 player from one of my friends elder cuevas and it has all the JSNI soundtracks on it and its so great and powerful... Also i dont know what it is lately but, i just really love reading and listening about José Smith lately... every story just seems to build my testimony that much more...

Also... Have you ever had a chopped up cow stomach and intestine taco mixed with habeneros? Must be hard for you guys to believe, but it actually doesnt taste that good...

Anyways love you all and im sending home presents... mom and dad... you might have to go through them for grandma OJ and Grandma and Grandpa Ropers... love you...

Sale Y Vale!!!
